City Mills Hotel offers a unique and romantic experience in a beautifully restored historic mill building on the Chattahoochee River. Guests consistently praise the gracious and welcoming staff, charming atmosphere, and convenient location near downtown Columbus. However, some recent reviews have highlighted housekeeping inconsistencies and noise from nearby train tracks.

Charming! What a lovely hotel! This upscale lodging in an historic mill building, just north of downtown Columbus, situated in a beautiful spot on the shoals of the Chattahoochee River, was a memorable and romantic place for my husband and I to spend a little weekend getaway. The front desk showed true southern hospitality in their words and deeds! We booked through Expedia a few days before the trip and reserved a riverfront room, but when we arrived, a wedding party (who had booked long before us) had actually gotten all of the Riverside rooms. Staff explained that Expedia will sometimes place you in a room that isn’t actually available. Disappointing! The staff immediately worked to find us another room that had a view of the river, even if it wasn’t fully on the riverfront. Just a note that if you book through Expedia this might be your experience too! There was a darling breakfast area that is included in your stay although we never got up early enough to enjoy it, lol. There is also free bottled water available at all times downstairs. Our room was terrific. Exposed brick walls, large windows and plenty of space. Very clean with a huge comfortable bed and crisp bedding. We were on the left side of the hotel and could see the river from the large windows. I appreciated the decorative touches that made nods to the building’s past as a grain mill, like the burlap throw pillows sporting the mill’s name on our bed! Charming! There is a restaurant and bar on the premise where we had drinks and appetizers one evening. The food was elevated southern cooking and delicious. There were some creative cocktails on the menu as well! Our server was also terrific! I mentioned the wedding party that had taken all of the riverfront rooms? This would be an awesome local to hold a wedding! Romantic, beautiful lighting, lots of unique indoor and outdoor spaces like the patio tucked away between the two buildings glowing with Edison lights in the night and a back deck that looks over the ruins of the old mill and as sunset the river? Grab a cocktail and just explore. You won’t get an experience like this if you stay in a chain hotel! The paved riverwalk starts behind the hotel and goes all the way downtown. It’s about a 10 minute walk to the downtown area with all the restaurants and zip lining and shops. We walked into town for dinner using this at dusk one evening. The timer lights hadn’t come on yet as the sun went down, the walk is lit but it was a little dark once the sun went down. I would only use this in the daylight! The hotel was truly everything we were looking for. If you want a romantic, unique and comfortable stay in a hotel with gracious and welcoming staff, you won’t find a better place in Columbus!

The hotel itself was beautiful, and the staff were always pleasant and welcoming. Unfortunately, the housekeeping service was extremely disappointing and did not match the quality of the property. Throughout my stay, I repeatedly had to request fresh towels, overflowing trash was left unattended, and basic necessities such as bath products and toilet tissue were often not replenished—even after multiple requests. While I appreciated the hotel’s appearance and friendly staff, the lack of attention to housekeeping significantly impacted my overall experience.

What a beautiful hotel located on the river walk! My husband and I, our adult son, and my son’s girlfriend stayed at this establishment and we were all very pleased. The room was spacious enough for the 4 of us. It was clean and nicely appointed. Every hotel employee was professional, friendly, and helpful. I would stay at this location again if we ever find ourselves in Columbus again.

Our family of four stayed at City Mills for four nights and our stay was fantastic. The grounds are immaculately kept. There’s a restaurant, yoga studio and massage therapist onsite. The location is perfect for walking/jogging. We made reservations and ate at the restaurant twice and truly enjoyed the experience. Breakfast was served daily and the staff was very polite, true southern hospitality. We enjoyed the deck especially at sunset and we even got to see an engagement (photo included)! City mills is truly a wonderful place to visit.

Really cool hotel! Usually I don't stay at quaint hotels, but this time I decided to. We are usually the modern crisp and luxurious type..lol. In any case, we decided to give this hotel a chance. I can say I was pleasantly surprised. It was heavy on character and farm-house style with a historical feel...almost like a bed and breakfast. The fact that this was mill and about two hundred years old is just amazing. I appearance, it has a lot whitewashed brick walls. The reception area was smaller than I expected and kind of surprised me at first entry. My 13 yo daughter who is used to the type of hotels I mentioned above immediately commented upon entry that this is no "Hyatt". Not in a negative way, but it was just not what she was used to. There is no "big lobby" or really any place to wind down in the evening if you don't want to be in your room, unless you sit outside. The breakfast area was also small and if lots of people are in there will get pretty cramped. But again, the outdoor seating is ample. But the space is decorated nicely and was inviting. The employees were super nice and helpful and the hotel is walking distance to downtown Columbus where most of the food and entertainment happens. The rooms were pleasantly decorated and maintained the feel for the historical mill. Our room had a river view that we loved. If you can get the river view, it is worth it. The hotel and room was clean and spacious with a modern farm house feel. Somethings I would change would be more variety in the breakfast servings...pancakes or waffles added would be a great addition. My kids kept asking for that. And there is no gym on site. Overall a really good experience and a great place to stay. Would I stay here again, absolutely. It is a different style of hotel, but well executed for its category.

After some prior stays in the area at rented houses or other hotels, I will stay here on every return trip for a number of reasons. First is location, as it's situated right on the Riverwalk, has its own high quality restaurant, and is set apart from the bustle and noise of the downtown area (which is easily accessible, if you want it). Next is value, as the rooms are spacious, clean, and quiet. The staff is extremely helpful, and the quality of the breakfast selection (included) blows away any place I've ever stayed anywhere (except for maybe the Drury line). Finally, charm, as the history of the Mill and the surrounding area just has a different 'vibe' than most chain hotels. You feel like you belong here from the first moment you arrive.

Cute hotel the corner room was roomy. The only thing was there were ladybugs in our room, glad I like ladybugs so they really didn’t bother me. It was clean but in the main room still had some trash in the trashcan, so that raised a little concern. Overall I would stay there again.

This hotel was beautiful, clean, and had so much character. The staff there was kind and was there to help in any way. They upgraded our room to a suite which was really nice! The bed was very comfy. This would have been a five star review if the location was better. There are train tracks right in front of the building, and all night, literally all night, all they did was blow their horns. We were lucky if we got an hour of solid sleep each night. Heavy sleepers may not mind it.

This place is breathtaking! The way they transformed an old mill into such a beautiful hotel is impressive, with so much character and charm. On top of that, the employees are exceptionally friendly and caring—you truly feel welcomed here. And it does not stop here, the restaurant has a top notch atmosphere with delicious food and drinks! Highly recommend booking here for a stay in Columbus, Georgia.

Beautifully restored old mill. Rooms are spacious , clean and many have river views. One of the few nice hotels in the Columbus area. Good "free" breakfast and coffee available all day. Excellent service. Only downside is it's pet friendly but that perk is everywhere lately.
